I have been reading all I can find on the Web and have found the Handbook section on "Creating a Custom Kernel". I have followed the directions using the config, compile, make depend, make, make install format. However, I have no idea what I'm doing and why I'm doing it. I'm running "FreeBSD 4.0-RELEASE #0: Mon Mar 20 22:50:22 GMT 2000" as reported from dmesg and would like to upgrade to the new 4.1 release. Any reference to documentation that would explain how to upgrade or recompile a kernel in simple, newbie terms would be appreciated.
