simply install the cyrus-sasl port and follow the rules in
/usr/local/share/doc/SASL/Sendmail.README.

I have built sendmail with AUTH, but I used the sources from sendmail.org.
They have pretty clear instructions and it might be easier than trying
to modify the FreeBSD port, unless someone else can guide you through
that.
