What version of FreeBSD are you running?
I can't find it now, but I remember there was an issue with a kernel crash  
a while ago, so upgrading to the latest 9-STABLE might fix your problem.

NB: I might be wrong here. I can't recall the details of it.

It might help if you could send the info from the kerneldump.
