I feel compelled to point out that 5 wasn't called -stable until 5.3. 5.0-5.2 
were early adopter releases. So 6.n isn't comparable to 5.n (as always YMMV). 
My understanding is that the whole point of this expedited release process is 
to avoid the feature creep that leads to huge and sometimes painful leaps 
(like 4 to 5 was).
