It appears that the XFree86 xterm released with 2.2-RELEASE (downloaded early 3/17/97) has (had?) a problem in that the utmp entries created by xterm conflict with other utilities external to XFree (who, w, and so on). I wrote to questions@freebsd.org after discovering the problem in my installation, and was told by others who've experienced the problem to recompile XFree86, which I did. It fixed the problem. Thanks to those who helped. I sincerely hope this problem has been fixed in base 2.2-REL. Thanks, Rich rbeer@jaguar.cris.com
