I wonder if this accounts for my troubles getting X to work on a Vaio R505TS, with the Intel 815 chipset. An XFree86 -configure gives me a black screen that does not respond to a kill. I have to reboot to get console back, though the system itself remains running. No matter how I go at this, I can't get better than 300x200 or so.
