Subject: Do we still need uname(2)?

I'm looking at modifying uname(2) for an embedded application, and I
discover that the uname code in sys/kern/kern_xxx.c doesn't appear to
be used at all. In the current form it doesn't even return a version
string, so at the very least it's broken. But uname(3) uses sysctl(2)
to get the information, and uname(2) isn't documented. Is there any
reason not to just excise it?

/me borrows an axe from phk.
