(One note on this dmesg output, the detach and following attach is as 
 you might guess me ejecting and reinserting the card.  The previous 
 mail and this was sent via the Orinoco card.. :)  OLDCARD dmesg will 
 follow tomorrow, gotta hit the sack...)
