I have tested the postgres from berkeley version postgres95
and it works well. Does more than you need.

I have made a test running FreeBSD on one machine, 
accessing data on 2 others running Unixware. All running postgres
the files have 42,000 records each. The machines are connected
via slip at 9.600 baud. I have made a "c" program (easy do code)
that reads one record from each machine in an specified order,
(say one code and the other name). The system proved very well.
