Dear Mr. Sowders,
As a fellow Systems Administration professional, I find your comments =
regarding this issue to be insulting and highly unprofessional. I also =
see it as damaging to the FreeBSD effort. As a Unix/NT Administrator I =
find FreeBSD a perfect fit in any network of computers that I specify =
and maintain.=20

As for Microsoft and their business practices:
If you are going to pick nits, please pick legitimate ones!
Every business on this planet that participates in the free enterprise =
system, uses the same business practices and have the same business =
ethics. Bar none!

As for your comments about me:
Well, as for being insane, you might have a point. My I.Q. is 163 and we =
all know what people say about people with high I.Q.'s, eh? As for =
waking up, I find it hard to go to sleep in the first place, so alluding =
that I might be asleep at the wheel (as it were) is moot. And as for =
sitting in front of my Windows computer too long, again you might have a =
point. Since computers are what I do, and Microsoft Windows NT accounts =
for 75% of my business, then yes I must admit I spend more time in front =
of my NT box than I do my FreeBSD box. But then again, since my business =
is Administration and Integration, then it sort of makes sense, doesn't =
it?

As for you Sir:
Since you are an employee of the USGS and by extenuation the U.S. =
Government, I find your comment that this email message is your own =
opinion, and not that of your employers to be ludicrous at best. I know =
for a fact that the message you sent me violates just about all of the =
communication policies set forth by the USGS. And yes, I would be =
delighted to send a copy of these messages to your Mr. Witmer for his =
perusal. Granted, this may have a severely negative affect on you =
carrier, but if you go around and step on land mines don't be too =
astonished when one goes off.

And finally, as for Microsoft IE4 for UNIX:
I personally would be delighted to have Microsoft IE4 for UNIX on =
FreeBSD. Even though Opera and other alternatives exist, I find that IE4 =
is actually more stable and reliable in use. I would also like to see =
Microsoft Office and Outlook ported to FreeBSD. Only because I find =
StarOffice to be a poor cousin to MS Office and Outlook is a very good =
email client (and I have used just about every type of email client =
available to FreeBSD, and none of them even come close to Outlook).=20

You must be INSANE. Wake up.

"Real success is convincing smart people that they need you."
Bill Gates, after he sold DOS, which he did not yet own, to IBM.

I can see it now. Microsoft decides that there are too many people=20
using Linux and other UNIX like operating systems. They decide to
use they're standard ploy of "embracing and then extending" the=20
technology, until the "tail wags the dog" once again. So all of a=20
sudden Microcrap ports IEwhatever to every known UNIX like=20
system on the planet. Now every kid who installs Linux or Freebsd
can have their familiar little browser, ain't that just sweet.

Me thinks you've been at your windows machine tooooo loooong.

I am more than willing to get in front of this and push back.

Do not include me by any inference such as,=20
"some other of my fellow FreeBSD users", in your dealings with =
Microshaft. =20

I demand that you name names of those others like yourself when=20
representing the Freebsd community, as I do not want to be included=20
in any way shape or form with this lunacy.

I think I will initiate my own email campaign to Micro-abortion product =
suggestion.

If you can't tell by now, I really don't care for Microidiots, their =
products, their business
tactics.

These are my opinions, they do not reflect those of my employer.

Bill,
I am willing to get behind this and push.
If they want names, do give them mine.

Hi,
Here's a copy of the message that I send to Microsoft under product
suggestions:

------Begin copy------

Hello,

I am a user of a BSD UNIX operating system called FreeBSD.
(Information on FreeBSD is available at www.freebsd.org)

I and some other of my fellow FreeBSD users would like to see a =
version
of Microsoft Internet Explorer (4.0 or greater) for our OS.

A thing to note is that FreeBSD has support to execute Linux =
binaries.

Currently, the only decent modern browser for our system is =
Netscape
Communicator which to some of us is a second choice for a browser even =
when
we are running Windows.

Unlike some UNIX system users, I respect Microsoft and I am very =
much
impressed to see that IE had been ported to UNIX (A competing platform) =
in
the first place.

I would appreciate some feedback on my request.

     Thanks

Bill
