It's a crappy software modem, yes.

But! There is hope..
The same person who wrote the shim to talk to PCI LT Winmodems has
written an ISA and PCCARD attachment..
Unfortunately I can't get it to work, but I haven't tried everything yet
:)

So, it isn't supported yet but hopefully will be soon...
