How about an optional extension in the /usr/ports/*/*/pkg area to record resources required for normal operation and for building? The bsd.ports.mk could then produce a warning and a request for confirmation before proceeding? It should be an optional inclusion as there may be situations where the computation is hard to predict. It wouldn't be a simple single number as the resource requirement would depend on the number of dependancies which have to be built and on the number of distfiles needed. Sure, one could just say "check your HDD before doing any port build" but it's not unusual for someone to do a large number of builds overnight. I would be happy to do the implementation if people feel this is not clutter. Comments?
