Just one final update--after going through the process described in
previous reports, it now turns out that there are deeper problems
with this port, in that it doesn't actually work (there are constant
errors, from bogus syntax errors to "can't find 'latex.fmt'").  It's
also an out-of-date version.

Me, I'm ditching the port, getting the most recent version from
lilypond.org, and working with that directly.  Thanks for your
help.
