Shortly after dumping Linux for FreeBSD was at a computer show where two guys were gawking at the various Linux distributions at a CD vendor. They were trying to decide which to buy by comparing the list of included stuff and favoring gcc 2.7.1.2 over 2.7.1.1. That's what I think of these days when somebody says, "bean counter". For nit pickers, I think the exact example was of a 2.6.3 gcc, and if I remember correctly 2.7.1.2 was nothing but the Linux version of 2.7.1.1. > I tried installing the Linux support for BSD and it always failed > during the installation process. /usr/ports/emulators/linux_base is one of the most complex FreeBSD ports. For the Linux binaries that it uses to install more linux binaries you have to have Linux in the FreeBSD kernel, first.
