Subject: BIG mistake!!! No more operational kernel...

I've just upgraded from 2.2.7R to 3.0 Stable. Painless upgrade with
the proper tutorials. However, for some reason, when building a
custom kernel, they keyboard was unusable (conflict with sc0). This
is something I didn't notice until after my mistake (I knew it wasn't
working, I just thought it was another mistake I made in the config
file). First reboot, was able to use kernel.old since it was the
generic kernel built when upgrading. Should have saved that to
kernel.GENERIC. I did have a kernel.GENERIC, however, it's a 2.2.7
kernel, so it bugs like hell and won't boot. So now I'm stuck with
only two kernels, none of which will boot. Also, I didn't create a
customized fixit floppy.

I tried using the boot floppy but it brings me into an installation
mode. I tried using the downloaded fixit floppy with it but it kept
asking me to put a writable fixit floppy in the drive (it was there
btw). I tried using kernel.flp and an ms-dos formatted floppy with
mfsroot.gz in it, but this didn't work either. If I want to salvage
this installation, what are my options? Consider that I just installed
FreeBSD 2.2.7 yesterday, cvsup'ed 3.0 the same night, and did a
make aout-to-elf build (yes, I forgot the - between elf and build,
but the installation went without a hitch). No backups, no repair
disks except for the images I d/l'ed from the site (you know the
results I've had). I may be able to create one from an identical
system which works, but I haven't been able to boot this one yet, so I
haven't had access to the filesystem to replace the broken kernel
(was hoping to use the kernel on the floppy to replace my broken one).

Any ideas? Other options?

BTW, this is a dual-boot system with Win98 on the first slice, and
in the extended partition which is the third slice (FreeBSD is on the
second slice).

Thanks,

Manu
