1.) the date listed on your post is wrong.

2.) i believe that maildrop is no longer actively maintained in the ports 
collection.  there is a problem with the one included.  but, as you found 
out, the source readily builds on freebsd.  stick with the original 
sourcecode and you'll be happy.
