can't reproduce it without a wipe clean, start over.

the first make might change a file (aclocal?) set en variable.

make config, select flexresp and dymanic prepossessions.

get this:

checking for dlsym in -lc... no

   ERROR! programmatic interface to dynamic link loader
   not found. Cannot use dynamic plugin libraries.

===>  Script "configure" failed unexpectedly.

second make works.

>How-To-Repeat:
make

then make again

has done this twice today, on two different systems, trying to install snort from ports (one was a 5.5 and one was a 6.4 that had been upgraded from 5.5)

>Fix:
run make again!

(strange,) and its not reproducible without wipeclean and starting with fresh install.
