Hi, I was asked if it made a difference if I warm-booted from Windows. Curiously enough, it does. Cold-boot or warm booting from Windows will let me see the disc that is in the drive. When I do a dmesg, I do not see any error messages like "atapi.1.0: unknown phase" or any other error messages for that matter. The boot does a noticeable pause (10-15 seconds) when it comes to the secondary IDE card, but not for the primary one. It then pauses again (about 10 seconds) before the messages for the CD-ROM drive. Finally, if I have cold booted or warm booted from Windows, I get a messages indicating that I have a 120mm disc inserted in the tray and that it is unlocked. If I warm boot, I do not get that message at all or any variant. I have made sure that the disc was fully spun up (and then some) before trying to mount. No difference. For grins I did try it while it was spinning up to see if there was a difference. I get a message telling me that the tray is open if I have booted in verbose mode (-v). Could this be a kernel option issue? Any other thoughts would be appreciated...
