In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc3.4, which is much stricter about such things as function declarations, literal strings constants that continue over several physical lines, and forcing the deprecation of antique header files such as varargs.h (we should now be using stdargs.h). The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. If you need help in one or more build environments that you do not have access to, please ask for help on the freebsd-ports mailing list. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 4.x/5.x/6.x with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: audio/gstreamer-plugins-faad80 broken because: Does not compile build errors: http://pointyhat.FreeBSD.org/errorlogs/amd64-errorlogs/e.5.2006022500/gstreamer-plugins-faad80-0.8.12_2.log (May 18 10:09:41 UTC 2006) overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=gstreamer-plugins-faad80 portname: databases/mergeant broken because: does not build with new libgnomedb build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=databases&portname=mergeant portname: multimedia/gstreamer-plugins-mpeg2enc80 broken because: Does not compile build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=multimedia&portname=gstreamer-plugins-mpeg2enc80 If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future. Thanks for your efforts to help improve FreeBSD. I have recently upgraded to GnuPG-1.4.4 and Seahorse-0.8.1 and the reported problem no longer occurs. This PR may be closed. P.S. Seahorse-0.8.1 also works with gpgme-1.1.2 without any apparent problem (at least with signing keys). Currently there are the following PRs against CUPS: ( http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr-summary.cgi?category=3Dports&text=3Dc= ups ) f 2006/06/25 ports/99460 itetcu print/cups: CUPS 1.2.0_x: Unable to open US= B device "usb:/dev/ulpt0": Permission denied f 2006/06/29 ports/99602 itetcu CUPS relaying fails f 2006/06/30 ports/99624 itetcu [PATCH] print/cups: update to 1.2.1 f 2006/07/02 ports/99707 itetcu CUPS in ports can't print raw data using ap= plication/octet-stream f 2006/07/03 ports/99745 itetcu print/cups: CUPS 1.2.0_x: Unable to open pa= rallel port device file "/dev/lpt0": Permission denied f 2006/07/04 ports/99786 itetcu cups-base OPTIONS don't work and 1.2.1 has = been released f 2006/07/04 ports/99791 itetcu cups-base clobbers LPRng f 2006/07/05 ports/99798 itetcu print/cups-base makes symbolic links withou= t entity Plus 2 others against cups-pstoraster (ports/98199, ports/98843) which is unmaintained. - you'll notice that one of the PRs above is an update for cups-base to 1.2.1 - since the rest of the ports that you maintain depend on cups-base, it would be nice I think, to have the dependent ports tested at run time with the new version before the update to cups-base is commited (provided that the maintainer approves the update, of course); while I'm a cups user, I'm not a "heavy " one, so I can't do all this testing. - I would also like to do one or two commits for the above PRs since there's no reason to force users to update cups ports each next day :-) (what I'm saying is that it's better to wait a few days until we can sort all problems out rather that commit incomplete fixes) - I also know there are some open cups-related kde bugs; I don't know if/how they are related to above PRs. In conclusion, before commiting an other update to cups-base, I'd like to know it has been tested with the other ports and have the respective patches for them if necessary. I worked around a quirk in our OSS drivers so that the OSS output plugin would work at all. I talked with Ariff about this, and he said he would be working on the driver at some point in the future to fix this issue. That said, I have not noticed any problems with the OSS output plug-in since I added my workaround. Yours is the first complaint I've heard. You can launch another MTA (e.g. UNIX mail) and delete the offending message. If you want to troubleshoot this, you would need to provide a backtrace with debugging symbols. Could you please visit http://people.freebsd.org/~fenner/portsurvey/gnome@freebsd.org.html and correct the problems listed there? The individual port with a problem is deskutils/nautilus-locked-folder. If you have already corrected the problems and submitted a PR, please accept my thanks and apologies for the delay in getting the fixes into the tree. This reminder is created automatically and does not (yet) have a way to know if a PR fixing the problem has been submitted. Please do *NOT* send your response to me directly; I do not necessarily have time to commit your fix; please instead submit a PR via 'send-pr' so it doesn't get lost. Problems are usually of two types: 1. The software package has been upgraded and the version in the port has been removed. The best solution to this problem is to upgrade the port to the most current version of the software package. If you are a FreeBSD committer, then you can just upgrade the port directly. If not, you should create the updated port on your own machine, test it (and maybe even run "portlint" on it), and then use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -uNr old-port updated-port". If you added or deleted any files, please make an explicit note of it. 2. The mirror site being used no longer contains the software package in question, or no longer exists. Solutions include: a) If there are other mirror sites, just remove the bad site from the list. (Make sure that what appears to be a bad site isn't actually a problem of type 1, upgrade) b) If the README or other support files in the software documentation mention where to get the software package, use one of those sites. c) Use a search engine to find another place to get the original DISTFILES. Make sure that you don't pick a FreeBSD distfiles mirror -- if you can't find any other places where the file exists, it can be a LOCAL_PORT or you can simply comment out the MASTER_SITES= line, with a comment explaining why. Once you have a solution, use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -u" of the Makefile. Note that this isn't an urgent issue, as people who try to build the port now will just fall back to the FreeBSD distfiles mirror. Please just put it on your list to do and get to it when you have time. These messages will continue to arrive twice a month until the fix is committed, as a reminder. Thanks, Bill "distfiles" Fenner. Yours is the first complaint I've heard. I'm going to add this to the bug I've filed as well, but since buzilla is d= own=20 for today: Some additional observations:=20 =2D The warning messages only appear with quodlibet, not with other players= =20 (such as rhythmbox). The playback issue however is present with all players= =20 I've tried. =2D I have gathered more evidence that the playback problem is not a decode= r=20 specific problem, since I've been able to reproduce it with both mp3 and og= g=20 vorbis data. Furthermore, the sampling rate threshold for the playback to=20 become stuttering is < 12800 Hz. Perhaps you could try and resample some audio file you have to a rate below= =20 12800 Hz and try to play it in rhythmbox or some other gst-0.10 player, so = a=20 driver specific issue can be ruled out (the via8223 driver does seem somewh= at=20 quirky, but it's the only sound hardware supported by FreeBSD that I have=20 available at the moment). Evince now renders all kinds of documents it could not render before, like eg http://beige.ucs.indiana.edu/M743/M743.pdf The versions are: poppler 0.5.3, evince 0.5.3_1. I wonder if the poppler port could be changed so the user can choose between splash and cairo while compiling the port? Perhaps a note about the situation would also be useful? best, Veiko -- Quoting Veiko Palge : > Quoting Joe Marcus Clarke : > > > On Sat, 2006-04-08 at 12:27 +0200, Veiko Palge wrote: > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > evince (0.4.0/gnome2.12/FBSD 6.0 or 0.5.2/gnome2.14/FBSD 6.1) > > takes > > > forever to render *some* pdf documents (with other it's as fast > as > > > kpdf), for instance this one: > > > > > > http://beige.ucs.indiana.edu/M743/M743.pdf > > > > > > kpdf renders it in an instant, so does acrobat7.
