I was able to remove hal using this approach, but only after removing firefox, gimp, gnumeric, dia and several others. When I reinstalled firefox, it didn't need HAL -- but when I reinstalled gimp the first thing it did was build HAL. I didn't find HAL in any of gimp's options, and I have "WITHOUT_HAL=3DYES" in /etc/make.conf. The HAL daemon hald isn't running, and gimp seems to work. I wish I could figure out what dependency wanted HAL to be installed so I could remove it. --=20 =2EO. | Sterling (Chip) Camden | http://camdensoftware.com =2E.O | sterling@camdensoftware.com | http://chipsquips.com OOO | 2048R/D6DBAF91 | http://chipstips.com --GvXjxJ+pjyke8COw Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (FreeBSD) iQEcBAEBAgAGBQJN0CcEAAoJEIpckszW26+RKBIH/AzPSzsFetSnrCsD6kumV6Vs Kf/CRAxXvdWHAqxH6kLC0IXWI66QsyShnuZVWsiGziqEkPxLFzPXvPZEM/p/AR+e KR8ZhdtHwB23INzxfFAaFaHmh3p0EZ99ujLOmQVuML47C6V6yyzr6UvBhpR4pIm7 UebD/49HBcV7zjZsH6osYvBADJPj+KGFcWOQz4F3TojB6YSuOmHgkZ02wJVTxiUo MOv7r9+opAwMgeVEBU0Ur2KN2JaTv9J9pEuG7QQk4mktYMNHPfgnygCMC5neEobb t1UxnIsJKY/L0F/OZABwyO78RQ3iFUlVuYUFWGgQCrNUkjqdcZ9c9+YarYHPLwk= =G+ai -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --GvXjxJ+pjyke8COw--
