I think you should have something like 

Section "Pointer"                                                              
    Protocol    "Microsoft" # or "MouseSystems" depending on the mouse                                                   
    Device      "/dev/ttyd0"                                                   

in the /etc/XF86Config file if you are using a serial mouse.
