In localhost.freebsd.questions you write: >Does anyone know/have running the Seagate Tape Stor 3200MB tape drive that >connect to the floppy cable? (it has it's own card for high speed >transfers.. was wondering that would work too.. >I'm interested in buying one but I want to know if I can use it on FreeBSD >or not.. >The details on the drive are: >Model Number: TST3200R >I think it's called a Tape Store Traven. While I can't speak to the specific model you're talking about here, generally speaking floppy tape drives are poorly supported or entirely unsupported under FreeBSD. Most people instead recommend SCSI tape drives of some stripe or another (Travan, 8mm, 4mm (DDS/DAT), DLT). I have a very cheap 4mm tape drive that I'm using right now, and while not perfect, FreeBSD works with it well. If you're worried about price, www.corpsys.com, for example, often sells referbished drives quite cheaply. At the moment, the cheapest SCSI drive they have is a 4 4mm changer for US$380 , which is a good price, I think, but probably overkill for most home users. I bought mine from them, but I have the advantage of living a few miles from several of their outlets (ah, Silicon Valley). I just noticed you're not in the US, so the shipping costs may drive up your price excessively; I'm not sure what to recommend to you in this case, but my understanding is that these sorts of drives are not recommended. -- bryan k ogawa <bkogawa@primenet.com> http://www.primenet.com/~bkogawa/
