Search for 'portupgrade' in google and you should > get a lot of very good articles about it in the first page of result. thanks for the pointer, but i have been using the portupgrade stuff for a couple of years. there seem to be delicate issues with dependencies which portsdb -Uu pkgdb -u pkgdb -Ff just don't handle automagically. randy
