s/Christian/Catholic or Orthodox/ since Protestants generally do not
believe in saints (with a few notable exceptions, such as Norwegians,
who celebrate five and a half saints on the simple grounds that they
were Norwegian, plus St. John because they get to light fires) and
therefore do not, in theory, celebrate All Saints' day. The practical
reality is somewhat different since Hallowe'en is such good business
for kids (who get candy) and toy store owners (who make zillions
selling overpriced costumes). This is somewhat complicated by the
fact that modern Hallowe'en celebrations have far less in common with
the Christian celebration of All Saints than with the pagan
celebration of Samhain it was intended to replace.
