Yes, the ource must be present on disk to use. but you can cheat and lndir the usr/src/sys tree from the live filesystem CDROM if you're stuck. For proper reconfig instructions, consult the FreeBSD Handbook at http://www.freebsd.org/handbook.html, or look in /usr/share for an older but sufficient version. Or order "Installing and Running FreeBSD" from walnut Creek, which you can get for free if you bought the 2.1 CD.
