Paul, 

Did you build gnome from ports? Because I *just* installed 4.5_R from
scratch on a box and it failed when building from the ports. KDE failed as
well.

Enlightenment is the first one that I tried from the ports that worked.

	Which version of gnome? I have had 1.4 running for quite some time
now.
