Depends on your definition of "popular" ;-) It has bugs - lots of them. The big advantage is that it's the only PBX with a configuration tool for platforms other than DOS/Windows. to keep `on topic'... I'm not sure if ports/comm is a good place. It uses a serial port to configure a communiction device - but you can't use it to communicate...
