I probably should have mentioned that I'm using a Sound Blaster PCI 128 with
FreeBSD 4.0. I know the card is recognized on boot, and here's what the mixer
devices look like on an ls -l of /dev:

crw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel   30,   2 Aug  1 17:06 /dev/midi0
crw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel   30,  18 Aug  1 17:06 /dev/midi1
crw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel   30,  34 Aug  1 17:06 /dev/midi2
lrwxrwxrwx     1 root  wheel          6 Aug  1 17:06 /dev/mixer -> mixer2
crw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel   30,   0 Aug  1 17:06 /dev/mixer0
crw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel   30,  16 Aug  1 17:06 /dev/mixer1
crw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel   30,  32 Aug  1 17:06 /dev/mixer2

Thanks for your help in advance!
