If natd had been written in the kernel (which no-one would have objected
to), you would have the exact above scenario.

We can pout about how "wrong" breaking the traditional layering scheme
and we can watch other systems peform (you know, real world, the things that
the users care about) or we can all live in an academic world where we
are so blinded that we think that traditional == right.
