Is this the appletviewer from the JDK 1.0.2 or the new JDK 1.1?

I think if you want to run the appletviewer or other Java applications
on your X Windows display using Sun's JDK, your display must NOT be in
16-bit mode. 8-bit or 24-bit mode should work fine.
