Run `dmesg | grep sio2` and make sure that sio2 (COM3) is actually found.

od is the optical disk driver.  If you turned off all the SCSI options,
including `controller scbus0', then it's probably complaining about some
missing SCSI routines.  Remove it and you'll be happy.
