Both the binary package and a local build with default options exhibit the
problem.

Disabling SSE in the options menu does get around it.  I suspect there's a =
bug
in the code making a bad assumption about specific CPU features when SSE is
enabled.

I've run a lot of scientific software on this machine that uses SSE and nev=
er
had any issues before.
