What boards did you test on without RTCs to verify that it doesn't cause hangs? The fact that there are two boards not enumerated which did have an RTC doesn't say anything about the boards that truly don't. Likewise, Linux's FDT is not authoritative for all boards. I'd feel better knowing this at least won't have a negative effect on boards without an RTC.
