Press releases need to be sent out in advance of availability of
a product, since they can easily take a week to two weeks to
translate into press coverage. As any experienced PR person
knows, a press release saying "this has already shipped" takes
a back seat to announcements that come ahead of the ship date.
Why? Because if you wait, reporters say, "It's already shipped.
It's old news." Psychologically, they feel more important
and powerful if they are able to give ADVANCE notice of
events. FYI.
