Following the discussion, I decided to see what xconsole was like (always run
xterm -C)

[Since -notify is the default] Has anyone noticed that under fvwm, the
xconsole icon doesn't display the '*' (for new output) unless the mouse
pointer is over it ?

This somewhat negates it's usefulness. Am I doing something wrong with my
fvwm config, or is there a workaround.
