It turns out my password was wrong all along - my ISP changed it to upper
case without telling me. :-(

Oh well, I seem to be connecting okay now, ppp turns to PPP, but i still
can't ping an IP address.  It just sits at the line after it tries to ping.

Here is my log file to see if it sheds some light on why - I may have added
too many lines to too many files in my attempts to get it to work in the
first place:
