You can use the boot manager of Windows XP if you want: Copy
/boot/boot1 to C:\free.bsd and create C:\boot.ini containing

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=C:\free.bsd
[operating systems]
C:\free.bsd="FreeBSD 4.6-STABLE"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP" /fastdetect

Some settings may be different in your machine, but you get
the idea.
