The Modula-3 libs installer creates a script in /usr/local/etc/rc.d/m3.sh which runs ldconfig to initialize the modula-3 libraries. If you removed it, then the script may be there and spitting out errors. Try removing it and see if that helps. What's the last thing on the screen before the prompt?
