HI,

I installed FreeBSD some weeks ago on a compaq and had the same problem.
There seems to be an error in the BIOS of some earlie compaq's. I just flashed
the BIOS and it was working immediarly.
So go over to http://www.compaq.com and install a new bios and the problem will
be fixed.

Michel
