No, this is in the generic VBOX USB code. Actually you see the USB 2.0 to U=
SB
1.0 fallback in the code snippet you pasted.

Can you check if you enabled OHCI and disabled EHCI and XHCI in the USB
configuration panel for VirtualBOX?

Also what does the dmesg say inside the virtual machine about USB devices?

Could you boot one of the Live FreeBSD-12-current ISO's from VirtualBox and
simply run "usbconfig" to see if your disk is detected or not?
