The same problem is observed with both net/ntp (ntp-4.2.6p5_2) and
net/ntp-dev.

>Description:

ntpd dumps core almost immediately on startup.

>How-To-Repeat:

# /etc/rc.d/ntpd start
Starting ntpd.
# sleep 1
# ntpq -p
ntpq: read: Connection refused

>Fix:

Adding "-n" to the command line and manually backgrounding ntpd
appears to make it work. (This also frustrated my attempts to run it
under the debugger.)
