How are you? When I needed to experiment with 4.6-RELEASE and I didn't have ``free'' computer, I installed 4.6-RELEASE on VMWare. It works pretty well and I was totally satisfied. My host is: 2xP!!!-770Mhz, 512Mb of memory, Hardware RAID with 2x40Gb IBM IDE HDDs (and one simple system disk). Host OS is W'2000 WS. Now I'm trying to look at 5.0-RELEASE (I've downloaded ISO of first i386 CD). It doesn't work under VMWare 3.2! Ok, it works, really. But speed is VERY low. I even could not do installation! Unpacking of distributive have been started at normal speed, but after 2 or 3 minutes speed decreased to 6Kb/s and after that to 1Kb/s! `top' on emergency console shows, that cpio+gunzip take only 5% of CPU, system takes 25% of CPU and interrupts takes 70% of CPU! 4.6-RELEASE installs on same VMWare virtual computer without any problems and works very fast! Is it problem of VMWare or 5.0-RELEASE? Is it known problem? I could provide any additional information, if needed.
