Ups nevermind, finally got it figured out:

When I upgraded to 5.0 some of the syntax in the file changed, but config 
didn't notice it because (duh) I was running the 5.0 version. Changing:

device          sc      1
	to :
device          sc0     at isa? flags 0x100

did the trick.
