I'm a bit behind in my mail, and I don't have time to give this proper attention yet, but I do see that your problem relates to soft updates. It's not clear that the soft updates themselves are a cause of the problem, or just a facilitator, but it would be interesting to see what happens if you turn them off. Note also that there are some bogons in your config, to judge by the vinum startup messages. I'll analyse this in a day or two when I (hopefully) have more time.
