perl is not in the base system so it will not be in /usr/lib... but
libperl.so does not appear to be installed at all :

[root@ford:simon] uname -a
FreeBSD ford.nitro.dk 5.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 5.0-CURRENT #0: Sat Nov 30 13:30:41 CET 2002 root@ford.nitro.dk:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386
[root@ford:simon] pkg_info |grep perl
perl-5.6.1_10 Practical Extraction and Report Language
[root@ford:simon] locate libperl
/usr/local/lib/perl5/5.6.1/mach/CORE/libperl.a
/usr/src/lib/compat/compat3x.i386/libperl.so.3.gz.uu
/usr/src/lib/compat/compat4x.alpha/libperl.so.3.bz2.uu
/usr/src/lib/compat/compat4x.i386/libperl.so.3.gz.uu

I don't know if it should be there...
