Just a guess, but 'ftp.apple.com' is simply used in a cluster lookup to
multiple IP addresses, and is not actually an a-name for any specific IP,
where ftp.cgi.com IS.  Perhaps timedc is being a little more pedantic than
it should about what address you are giving it?
