...and I occasionally want to hook my modem up to my Amiga or possibly to one
of the SPARCs or whatever at work (i.e. external modems are portable). But they
do consume an existing serial port, so sometimes you might need to add a little
bit to the cost differential to accomodate an extra serial port card (to go
with the slightly higher priced external modem). For anything I've wanted to do,
the benefits of the external, portable box have outweighed any costs.
