well.. I'm a good friend of his... and last night he was showing me the
message (and I acidentally sent it)... but later that night I worked on
the machine... and had my first experience with kernel debugging...  :) 

basicly it seems that the call to ttyclose at the end of spec_close
manages to overrun the stack... so upon return of spec_close it tries to
"return" to the previous function.. but that return value was overwriten
and so it jumps to the null pointer...

I still have some core's from the system on the hard drive... if you would
like some more info, I can provide it...  ttyl...
