Yes. The partition table on the disks only knows of "primary" partitions. Extended partitions are, in a sense, partitions within partitions, and the partition table does not reflect that. I suspect your problem is that you're atempting to create more than 4 partitions on a single disk. There's a limit of 4 paritions, and you already have that many, so I suspect you can't have any more. I gues it would have been better if sysinstall told you that, and not just made up a partition called "X", but I think this is basically what your problem is. The only cure is probably to move some of the primary partitions into the extended partition, so they will all be counted as one against the 4 partitions limit.
