What kind of card is it? (the 3Com mini-pci (LAN/Modem))?
If so, I've come to the conclusion that card is a POS.

Went thru 3 different ones in 1 year, all 3 gave me problems.
Not operating system specific either; FreeBSD, W2K, WinXP, or Win98.
All gave the same symptom, POS card just stops working!

I finally got fed up and switched to the Intel mini-pci card, and have
had no issues since.

Just my opinion...
